Not even being any real fan of the Metroid games (never played any of them for more than a few minutes), Samus always looked too static to be visually interesting. The most interesting Samus ever appears is when she's moving since she actually pretty athletic and she's usually animated extremely well. Her unarmored appearance suffers the same and there's no inbetween.
THIS is an exception. While it's not as dynamic as Samus crouched shooting or sprinting poses, this has a lot of movement to it. We know her armor can come away in parts, but it's cool to see them coming back together while she's moving. I like the assymetrical way her armor comes together, I like the little rings that could feasibly rationalize her armor detecting her jumpsuit and showing where they'll enclose and protect her, I like how one shoulder and one leg is in place giving a distinct impression of her armor without it being all there as well as how it's cast in light from above the frame, I like how she looks serious, and I like how her hair's not boringly pulled back into a ponytail even though it would be wildly more convenient than getting it accidentally trapped in her metal buttcrack through this process.
